Golden Slipper
The Golden Slipper is the world's richest horse race for two-year-olds held during the Autumn Racing Carnival in Sydney. It was first run in 1957 and won by celebrated racehorse Todman. The Golden Slipper is run over 1200m at Rosehill Gardens, close to Parramatta, in western Sydney.

The first Caulfield Cup run was in 1879 and the first horse to win was Newminster. It is held annually by the Melbourne Racing Club. The race if for three year olds and over. Performances in the Caulfield Cup are one of the possible qualification methods for a run in the Melbourne Cup.

Future – Place a bet on a future horse race.
Jackpot – Pick six winners in six races to share in a jackpot race.
Odd/Even: This is an uncommon bet based on the number of the winning horse.
Pick Three – This wager requires the punter to pick the winners of three consecutive races.
Pick Six: This is a bet on the first place position of six consecutive races, generally the last six. In the event nobody wins, the winning pool is split between those correctly picking five (or less if nobody picked five) and a carryover to the next pick six pool.
Place –This is a bet that the chosen horse will finish first or second.
Quinella: This is a bet is on the first and second place horse in a given race in any order.
Show: This is a bet that the chosen horse will finish first, second, or third.
Straight Bet – Place a bet on the winner at given odds.
Superfecta: This bet is on the first, second, third, and fourth places in a given race in the correct order.
Trifecta: This bet is on the first, second, and third places in a given race in the correct order.
Twin Trifecta: This is a pair of trifecta bets on two races. The winning pool is split between winners of the first trifecta and winners of both of them. After the first race, winners of that trifecta should redeem their tickets for winnings from the first half of the pool and a ticket for the second half.

Checked – A horse that is pulled up by its jockey when it is cut off in a race.
Claiming – Buying a horse out of a race for an entered price.

Disqualification - Change of order of finish by officials for an infraction of the rules.
Distanced – A horse that is well beaten and finishes a great distance behind the winner.

Scratch – To be taken out of a race.
Show – Third position at the finish of a race.
Stretch Runner – A horse that finishes the race fast.
Tight – Ready to Race
Trifecta – A horse racing bet that picks the first three finishers of the race in exact order
Trip – The horse’s race.
Triple Crown - In the United States, the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes. In England the 2,000 Guineas, Epsom Derby and St. Leger.
